Introduction to website

My name is Eric P Smith. I am 75 years old, male, single.

I was born and brought up in Edinburgh, Scotland. I was educated at Broughton Primary School and Portobello Secondary School, both in Edinburgh, and then at the University of Edinburgh, where I was awarded a BSc degree with first‐class honours in Mathematics followed by a PhD also in Mathematics. I was an Inspector of Taxes for 21 years, serving successively in Alnwick, in Newcastle upon Tyne, in Wick, and in Edinburgh. After that I was a driving instructor in Edinburgh for 12 years. At the age of 59 I returned to the University of Edinburgh for 2½ years, studying Philosophy and Linguistics, and obtained an Undergraduate Diploma of Higher Education. I am now retired and living in Edinburgh.

This website is under construction and is currently about 75% complete. It consists of things I have written, and a selection of music I have performed, that may be of interest to anyone of a kindred spirit. The pages range from the serious to the whimsical. The website is not a blog, and once it is complete I do not expect to add to it regularly. It is intended to be a permanent expression of how I wish to present to the world. It is the book I never wrote.
