I have been fascinated by words and the way they work since the age of three.

I returned to the University of Edinburgh at the age of 59 for 2½ years, studying Philosophy and Linguistics. I have kept my interest in linguistics, and I regularly visit the excellent website Language Log which is a blog maintained by a team of professional linguists headed by Mark Liberman.
